The clockwork orange Residential Units

Statement#

This early-semester studio assembled experimental residential projects that critiqued contemporary living patterns through the encounter of two otherwise separate neighborhood systems. By moving beyond familiar thresholds and reconsidering how dwelling and neighborhood shape identity, the work generated spatial fields that are simultaneously intertwined and distinct.

The proposals recast coexistence and privacy as a negotiation between two connected networks. Boundaries become active spatial devices rather than simple dividing walls, while circulation produces a labyrinthine continuity in which each level follows from a legible internal logic. The Clockwork Orange house projects therefore challenge conventional separations in modern domestic space.

Overview#

Set within a speculative city divided between domestic life and antagonistic outsiders, the projects examine the gradual transition of the house from a heavily defended private enclosure to a more exposed condition with minimal security. The exercises invite students to reconsider how privacy, protection, and social proximity can be organized within a shared urban fabric.
